The sphygmomanometer mainly works by pressurizing the cuff to block blood flow and detect pressure changes. Common technologies include Korotkoff sound method and oscillometric method. Mercury sphygmomanometer uses Korotkoff sound method to capture the sound changes when blood flow is restored through stethoscope; electronic sphygmomanometer relies on sensors and algorithms to analyze cuff pressure fluctuations and automatically calculate blood pressure values.
1. Basic principles: cuff pressurization and blood flow blockage the core of blood pressure measurement is to temporarily block arterial blood flow by pressurizing the cuff, then slowly release the pressure, and observe the pressure changes when blood flow is restored.
Systolic pressure (high pressure): When the cuff pressure is slightly lower than the intra-arterial pressure, the blood flow begins to break through the blockage, and the pressure value at this time is the systolic pressure.
Diastolic pressure (low pressure): The cuff pressure is completely lower than the arterial diastolic pressure, and the blood flow is completely restored and unobstructed. At this time, the pressure value is the diastolic pressure.
